Pondering Prayer
Today, I am spending the day writing a chapter of my book on prayer. When I ponder the concept of prayer and its vast depth of practice, I am filled with more questions than answers. It is good to think about these things with an open heart and a curious mind.
If you were to describe prayer to someone who had never heard of it before, what would you say?
It reminds me of the Danish concept of hygge, its a relaxed, content feeling created in an effort to connect and feel comfort.
Prayer is similar in that we engage in conversation with God to repair the broken pieces of our heart; to clear out the dust and find the path forward. It’s a safe space that requires nothing but a willing heart. What I really love? Prayer is an invitation for relationship with God. The same God who created the world, who put us together, desires to dwell with us in a raw, unfiltered connection.
Prayer is about the posture of our heart, not the quality of our words. We don’t have to pray perfect, we just need to faithfully turn to God.
